The Great Pumpkin Farm: One of WNY's Fall Holiday Treasures

Posted Andrew Davis Halloween Local

I consider fall to be the nicest time of year in Western New York (WNY), where Cats Like Us is located. As the season changes the days get cooler and the leaves turn a rainbow of autumn colors. Halloween and then Thanksgiving are not far off. Apples and pumpkins are in season and I can't seem to get my fill of apple cider.   The Great Pumpkin (Farm) This area has a few hidden gems that open seasonally, and one that is not too far out in the suburb of Clarence NY is The Great Pumpkin Farm (GPF). What has...

The Cats of Cats Like Us

Posted Andrew Davis Behind the scenes Lifestyle Local

We get calls weekly from people a little confused about the name of our store. (I suppose we can’t blame people too much since “cats” is in the name). And to clarify if you were wondering, we do not sell cats or kittens, nor do we board them, and please don’t surrender your cats to us. But we do LOVE cats. You could call us cat people. You may be wondering how just two people can run a successful on-line store and full brick and mortar boutique. Well the truth is that there are several helpers behind the scenes!...

Behind the Scenes: Uniting the Gateway for the United Way of the Tonawandas Fashion Show

Posted Julie Ann Davis Behind the scenes Fashion Local

Cats Like Us is always up to support a cause we believe in and this one is right in our backyard. We were involved in a fashion show a few weeks ago where the proceeds went to support the United Way of the Tonawandas and it was held at the historic Riviera Theater. Pretty swanky. If you are local and have never been to the Riviera Theater, go. It is beautiful. This is what it looks like on the inside. It was built in 1926 and patterned in an Italian Renaissance style. More information on the Riviera can be found...

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Behind the scenes

I sat down with Buffalo, NY based beauty, fashion and portrait photographer, Jennifer Link, and asked her for the skinny on who she is and what inspires her. I have the pleasure of working beside her at the alternative and edgy Auxiliary Magazine which includes; fashion, music and lifestyle. Jennifer Link is the editor-in-chief, creative mastermind, and wrangler of the ruffians (magazine editors) into making a cohesive publication that has been going strong for 3 years now. Jennifer has a list of clients including; Plastik Wrap, Futurstate Clothing and our hometown heroes, Cats Like Us. Let's see what this sassy gal...

Behind the Scenes: Cats Like Us Auxiliary Magazine Fashion Show

Posted Julie Ann Davis Behind the scenes Style

When Jenny Link from Auxiliary Magazine asked if I would be interested in doing a fashion show for their anniversary party, thoughts began to swirl through my head like, "Who's going to model?" "Do I have time to do this?" "What if the clothes get ruined?" "Do I have enough outfits?". After truly thinking about it I thought, "Hell YES I want to do a fashion show!" It’s a great opportunity to showcase what Cat Like Us is all about, retro fashions for today! (Plus I really like Auxiliary Magazine and they are good people who work very hard at...

Retro Cocktail Recipe : Basil and Pineapple Martini

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails

We bought a little basil plant at a local farmers market with the intention of having some fresh basil for cooking, but I also have been wanting to try some muddled basil cocktails like the Basil and Pineapple Martini. If you're thinking, "EW!!!", I was right there with you until I really started to enjoy muddling everything in sight as it unleases the fruit and/or herbs wonderful flavors.  Ingredients: 4 parts Absolut Vodka 2 parts lemon juice 1 part simple syrup 1 piece of pineapple (I used fresh) 1 leaf basil (fresh would be best) Method: Muddle pineapple, basil and...

Retro Cocktail Recipe : Emerson

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails

I stumbled upon the Emerson on pinterest as a cocktail that is said to be dated back to 1914, which had been named after the literary figure *Ralph Waldo Emerson. Just like a lot of cocktails, there are varying measurements, ingredients and opinions on flavor. I took the best of what appealed to me (and what ingredients I had on hand) and this version of the Emerson recipe seems to be well suited to be deemed a "classic". Ingredients: 1 1/2 oz. Gin 1 oz. Sweet Vermouth 1/2 oz. Lime juice 1/4 oz. Maraschino Cherry liqueur Method: Combine all ingredients into...

Monster Matt Monday: What Classic TV Shows Do Monsters Watch?

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Lifestyle

Ghoul Mourning Maniacs! A bunch of us Monster types had a retro TV watching marathon. We focused on the fifties, the atomic age. By the time we finished watching and snacking, I had ATOMIC ACHE! Ugh. We found shows like..... Father Knows BEAST! Dracula was fond of a show called. BATS Masterson! The Zombies and the Body Snatchers really liked BRAINS & BRAWN! The Mutants and Aliens liked The CRAWLING EYES have It! The HORROR fans (all of us) liked Four SCAR Playhouse! There was a show about a ghoulish Norwegian family called I DISMEMBER Mama! What do you call...

Retro Cocktail Recipe : RedRum Rum

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails

RedRum rum caught my eye while I was on a recent trip to stock up our Tiki bar! I would be lying if I didn't say that the name was the first thing that caught my eye and then the red color and the rum's description. "Premium Carribean Rum infused with natural mange, pineapple, coconut & cherry flavors. Mix with fruit juices, sodas, foo-foo drinks, or savor straight, over ice." I tried RedRum rum chilled straight and it's wonderful. There is a slight burn with the first sip, then you can taste the fruity flavors and has a nice smooth...
