11 Ways to Wear a Brooch!
Julie Ann Davis
With Covid and wearing a mask, I find myself reaching more for necklaces and brooches, than earrings. What I often forget is that there are many ways to wear a pin or brooch and here are some examples with pictures taken from the shop and my real life outfits! #1 On a sweater. This is the classic look. Place it near your shoulder, but above your boob, please. (We blogged about this before.)Â #2 On your collar. If you're wearing a collared shirt and Peter Pan collar dress, why not put a contrasting brooch on it!? Instant different look! #3...

Yipes?! Stripes!
Julie Ann Davis
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved stripes. I don’t know what it is that always draws me to them, so today I’ve decided to explore my obsession. Is it the slightly artsy beatnik flair of black and white stripes? Is it the slick pairing of stripes that matches everything without being too over the top? Is it the contrasting colors in parallel lines that are classic and never go out of style? Is it that it’s a print without really being a print? Is it looking like being in the French navy? I would have to say...

Retro Movie Fashion : Cry-Baby
Julie Ann Davis
What do you get when John Waters makes a musical that is based in 1954? You get an amazing movie that is full of quirky 50s nostalgia, a (very hot!) Jonny Depp aka Cry-Baby Walker and a whole lot of vintage-inspired fashions. Not only is the movie cast amazing, the dialog and the one-liners have me watching this flick again and again. But this blog isn't a movie review blog--it's a dedication to my love for Traci Lords character aka Wanda Woodward and the inspiration we find from her retro 1950s wardrobe! Â Â Â In Cry-Baby's world, it's all...
Julie Ann's Vintage Closet Tour: The Lilly (....Pulitzer that is!)
Julie Ann Davis
About 15 years ago, WAY before all the Target hype about Lilly Pulitzer last year, I lived in a flat in downtown Buffalo, NY and my go-to fashion advisor was Lucky Magazine. They had a small feature article in the back of the magazine about this woman who worked at an orange juice stand in Palm Springs in the late 1950s. The women would spill a lot of juice on her clothes while working, so to hide the stains she made a shift dress printed with bright bold patterned fabric. Her name was Lilly Pulitzer. This story stuck with...
