I stumbled upon the Emerson on pinterest as a cocktail that is said to be dated back to 1914, which had been named after the literary figure *Ralph Waldo Emerson. Just like a lot of cocktails, there are varying measurements, ingredients and opinions on flavor. I took the best of what appealed to me (and what ingredients I had on hand) and this version of the Emerson recipe seems to be well suited to be deemed a "classic".
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz. Gin
1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
1/2 oz. Lime juice
1/4 oz. Maraschino Cherry liqueur
Method:
Combine all ingredients into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into a martini glass. Optional: garnish with a few maraschino cherries.
Cheers and enjoy this tart and lightly sweetened gin cocktail!
^Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American writer and lecturer who lead the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century.
