I sat down with Buffalo, NYÂ based beauty, fashion and portrait photographer, Jennifer Link, and asked her for the skinny on who she is and what inspires her. I have the pleasure of working beside her at the alternative and edgy Auxiliary Magazine which includes; fashion, music and lifestyle. Jennifer Link is the editor-in-chief, creative mastermind, and wrangler of the ruffians (magazine editors) into making a cohesive publication that has been going strong for 3 years now. Jennifer has a list of clients including; Plastik Wrap, Futurstate Clothing and our hometown heroes, Cats Like Us. Let's see what this sassy gal...

When Jenny Link from Auxiliary Magazine asked if I would be interested in doing a fashion show for their anniversary party, thoughts began to swirl through my head like, "Who's going to model?" "Do I have time to do this?" "What if the clothes get ruined?" "Do I have enough outfits?". After truly thinking about it I thought, "Hell YES I want to do a fashion show!" It’s a great opportunity to showcase what Cat Like Us is all about, retro fashions for today! (Plus I really like Auxiliary Magazine and they are good people who work very hard at...

Rat Bastard Rockabilly sounds like a tough name for a tough guy, but when we talked to Chris Johnson the creator of the brand, he's the most down to earth and approachable fellow you could ever meet. The Story of Kitch Towels

A few weeks ago I was looking at our Kitch Towels in the shop and thought more people need to know how great these little towels are, so I contacted Erin, the gal behind the Kitch name and interviewed her. This is the story….  Who makes up Kitch Towels? Myself with help from my sweet husband! We have co-owned a screen printing shop in downtown Buffalo, NY (called Steamroller) for the past 11 years, and Kitch is an extension of that.  Where did the name come from? I wanted to convey a sense of my design aesthetic as...

Phew! I just got back from a whirlwind weekend filled with rum, Polynesian delights, swimming and well, more rum, Ohana was once again a great time! This was our third year enjoying the scenic view of Lake George, NY while lounging about the pool at The Tiki hotel or peaking out the window and seeing the awesome Adirondack Mountains. View from our room We arrived on Friday around 1pm, the drive took about 5 1/2 hours and was a pleasant journey. Derek and I like to sing songs and crack lots of jokes, I think we both get a little...
Rockabilly Zombies? Hell Yes!

My love of horror movies has never waned, actually the bloodier the better, so when I was approached by Rockabilly Zombie Weekend for a donation, it just seemed like a perfect fit! What is Rockabilly Zombie Weekend you might ask? It’s a movie being made by a group of independent filmmakers in Florida. The writer of the film is Tammy Bennett, she sounds like my kind of ghoul. After Tammy attended Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender she thought Rockabilly culture and zombies would make a great pairing and I couldn’t agree more. What’s it about? It takes place in Central...

Here’s the final ad and some shots from behind the scenes….  Yay makeup, and LOTS of it! (Oh and my giant Earl Grey in the front.) Photo:...
Lower Town Trio: The Fellas Behind the Cats Like Us Jingle

I always say, “Cats Like Us brings people together.” I've met the most fascinating people through the shop and it's no wonder---they are also interested in the same things we stand for: great fashion, rescuing animals, and music. When I first met Jason Van Cleve, he was a customer involved with the Queen City Roller Girls (our local derby league), then he invited me to a few gigs around town that his band Lower Town Trio was playing. In Buffalo, NY you have a handful of rockabilly bands that put their own take on the musical style. Lower Town Trio...
