Burlesque, The Tease, and Cats Like Us

Posted Andrea P

What do you think of when you hear the word “burlesque”? I think of confident women (and men) using their bodies to express themselves and perform for enthralled audiences. Burlesque has been popular in America since the 1860s - that’s nearly 200 years of moving and shaking! https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bon-Ton_Burlesquers2.jpg One of my favorite parts of burlesque is the elaborate costumes the performers put together. Burlesque fashion has gone through many changes throughout the years, from loose robes and veils to petticoats and corsets. One of the enduring images of the Jazz Age is of Josephine Baker dancing in a banana skirt...

Retro Cocktail Recipe : Bloody Rum Punch

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails

photo from pinterest Treat your guests to some delicious Bloody Rum Punch at your Halloween party this year! This very boozy punch is said to pack a whollop, so it might be best to play around with the measurements before serving. If you don't mind masked men hanging from your chandeliers or groovy ghoulies adorning their heads in lamp shades, then this punch will definitely 'wake the dead'.....so-to-speak. Ingredients: 1-750ml bottle of silver rum 1/2 bottle red wine 6 oz. lime juice 6 oz. triple sec 6 oz. simple syrup For garnish: 2 limes sliced in thin wheels 2 red...

At Cats Like Us we are always trying to bring you the best curated Retro Collection and this fall we have collaborated with Dear Yesterdays! Located just a hop, skip, and jump from Cats Like Us in Syracuse, NY, I discovered Dear Yesterdays at the Retro Ladies Day held by the Salt City Belles and Beaus. Tom Wahl’s - A Blast From The Past!

Posted Andrea P

What do you think of when you hear the word “diner”? I think of thick malted milkshakes, neon lights behind block glass, and The Beach Boys playing on the jukebox. You might think that diners are a thing of the past but if you visit Rochester, NY you can time travel to the 1950s at Tom Wahl’s. Tom Wahl’s is a diner chain based in the Rochester, NY and the surrounding Finger Lakes region. We decided to visit Tom Wahl’s because my boyfriend, Neil, attended SUNY Geneseo and would frequently visit the Tom Wahl’s in Avon, NY since it was...

Posted Julie Ann Davis Behind the scenes Lifestyle Local Style

On Saturday May 27, 2017 I was lucky enough to attend the 1st Annual Retro Ladies Day held by the Salt City Belles and Beaus at the Barnes Hiscock Mansion in Syracuse, NY. Only a two and a half hour drive from Buffalo, Destiny from Sweet Heart Pinup (just up the street from Cats Like Us) and I felt it was a no-brainer to attend. After all, it would give us an excuse to wear fancy vintage hats and gloves. There was even a complimentary glass of champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and a swag bag from the Salt City ladies included in...
