Retro Cocktail Recipe : Singapore Sling

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails

The Singapore Sling is a classic cocktail that has a different recipe no matter where I have looked, so this recipe comes from Mr. Booze who is one of my favorite cocktail resources. The Singapore Sling was invented in Singapore by bartender Ngiam Tong Goon in 1915 for the Raffles Hotel, little did Mr. Goon know that his cocktail creation would live on as a classic for almost 100 years. If you like gin and you like a drink that's a little sweet, you'll enjoy this refreshing treat! Ingredients: 1 1/2 oz. Gin 2 oz. Sweet and Sour Mix (see...

Vintage Clip Earrings: A Love Affair

Posted Julie Ann Davis Fashion

It all started out so innocently.  These things usually do.  I was skulking through shops and galleries in the funky-artsy-affluent Geneva suburb of Chicago with my brother Steve and his wife Heidi.  We stumbled upon one of those vintage shops that are a very organized brand of chaos.  Beautiful, seemingly unorganized gems everywhere with the lack of rhyme or reason that makes you feel like you are on a treasure hunt.   There, under a black fedora that featured a pink feather hat, I found my first pair.  Emerald cut stones in a deep mossy green.  A window pane frame...

Retro Cocktail Recipe : Green Fuzz

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails Music

On February 4, 2009 we lost an amazing singer and founder of The Cramps, Erik Lee Purkhiser who is also known as Lux Interior. To say that Lux and The Cramps are a major influence on music is an understatement, their music has spanned many decades from the 1970s to 2000's. Their music is still as relavant and exciting to a young fan first discovering their records through to those who has been following The Cramps since day one. Lux Interior will forever live on through his music, his lyrics and the people who he has and will influence.  The...

Drink of the Week : British Snakebite

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails

My husband and I have been drinking (British) Snakebite's all week. It's an easy drink to make and enjoy on these hot summer evenings in Buffalo. If you're not a beer drinker don't be afraid of this wonderful concoction, the cider negates the bitterness of the lager, so trust me my husband hates beer and he is the one who turned me onto this drink! Ingredients: 1/2 pint dry cider 1/2 pint lager Method: First pour the cider into the pint glass and then slowly pour lager to fill the rest of the pint glass to "float" on top. ...

The Story of Kitch Towels

Posted Julie Ann Davis Behind the scenes Local

A few weeks ago I was looking at our Kitch Towels in the shop and thought more people need to know how great these little towels are, so I contacted Erin, the gal behind the Kitch name and interviewed her. This is the story….   Who makes up Kitch Towels? Myself with help from my sweet husband! We have co-owned a screen printing shop in downtown Buffalo, NY (called Steamroller) for the past 11 years, and Kitch is an extension of that.   Where did the name come from? I wanted to convey a sense of my design aesthetic as...
