Sweetheart Pin Up Studio is located right down the street from Cats Like Us at 59 Main St. Tonwanda, NY 14150. I first came up with the idea of working with Destiny Rogowski on a blog with the idea of shedding some light on the pinup photography experience from both the model and the photographer perspective. I wanted to share some insight into what Destiny does and perhaps encourage people who may be hesitant stepping in front of the camera. Well, when Destiny suggested I be the model it sent a bit of shock my system. "I'm a stylist, I'm...
Video Blog Retro Hair for YOU: Bandana's and Scarves Too!
Meagan Kyla Hendrickson
We get asked a lot about how to fold a bandana or how to wear a 'Hello Kitty' large bow in our hair, so Julie Ann and I decided that we needed an in-store event! But, how could we reach all of our lovely online customers as well?! Well, the idea of a video for Retro Hair for YOU: Banada's and Scarves Too, was born. In the video we talk about tips and tricks on how to fold a bandana and wear it tied in the front, as it's one of the simplest way to infuse some retro rockabilly style into...
Cats Like Us Insider: His Vintage Touch
Posted
Meagan Kyla Hendrickson
photo: @slapback_nyc A few months back Tony Medina (His Vintage Touch) had posted on social media the announcement that there would be only one East Coast stop on his tour. Within a whopping forty-eight hours, tickets for the class were all snatched up by the die hard stylists and fans, yet Lauren (Julie Ann's hairstylist) managed to snag (after having to click the “refresh button” three times) one of the four remaining tickets! Shortly after the tickets were sold out, Tony Medina jumped on the opportunity to teach a second class the night before as a test run. This class had also sold out and...
Cats Like Us at Deco Fest

This past month Cats Like Us sponsored Deco Fest (http://www.deco-fest.com/) at the Buffalo Central Terminal and we tried to capture some nice photos of our customers who were swinging around in our clothes. The Buffalo Central Terminal Train Station is rich with Buffalo history and art deco architecture. Buffalo Central Terminal opened on June 22, 1929 and the grand opening included the Chamber of Commerce Gala, with 2,200 people attending. It was the largest event in Buffalo at that time. Sadly, the trains stopped running in 1979 and the building was abandoned. Â More than 30 years after closing the...
Vintage Inspired Hairstyles Made Easy with Scarves
Julie Ann Davis
I love scarves because they are so versatile for an easy, vintage inspired old hollywood look. Especially the new ones we just got in! http://shop.catslikeus.com/search?q=sash They are long enough you can wear them as belts, neck scarves and hair scarves. Here's a quick picture guide that works for long or short hair to get your creative juices going... Wrap the scarf around the top of your head to underneath your hair at the nape of your neck, and tie in a knot, letting the tails hang in the back. Â Here's a version the same idea. Wrap the scarf around...
Retro Fashion: Customize Your Own Circle Skirt
Meagan Kyla Hendrickson
We are very excited as we've restocked all our plain circle skirts in pink, red, black and (the not so plain) black & white polka dot. While I was restocking the sales floor with these awesomely versatile skirts, it got me thinking of all the customization options. With a little imagination, some fabric glue or machine/hand sewing, you can really make the circle you've always wanted (and at a great price too, plain color circle skirts are $38!!!), it's just that simple! Since the skirt is a perfect circle, you can lay the skirt flat out and evenly space the design...

Between her running from photo shoot to photo shoot, launching her new hair flower retro accessory line "Hair Affair by Kelvis", planning her wedding, and her exclusive Retro Lovely Magazine model edition, she has little time but squeezed us in for an interview and we couldn’t be happier. Learn more about this Western New York native and you’re sure to fall in love with her just like we did! Let’s start at the beginning…What made you start modeling Kelvis? What do you like the most about it? The least? People have always said to me, "You should model."... but I never...
Dressing for the Dance (What are you wearing tonight?)
Julie Ann Davis
What are you wearing tonight? If you love the dance world as much as I do, you’ve probably come to learn that the experience truly becomes complete when donning a fabulous outfit. I first stepped into a dimly lit club filled with swing dancers longer ago than I care to admit and there has been no turning back. I was swept into a new culture of reviving dance moves from the 30s, 40s and 50s faster than you can say “Shim-Sham” and hand in hand with the dances came the incredible urge to dress the part. At first I was...
