Behind the Scenes: Confessions of a Non-Model

Posted Julie Ann Davis Behind the scenes

Hi everyone, I’m Julie Ann, the gal you see in the pictures on the Cats Like Us website and on the postcards in the red dress. I never intended to be the model for Cats Like Us. Afterall, I’ve never modeled as you can probably tell. People have told me I’m very photogenic and back when I was 15 years old JCPenney approached my mom and they wanted to know if I would model for their catalog. My mom asked me if I was interested and I said “no”. I guess if I had said “yes” my life would be...

Behind the Scenes: Cats Like Us at VLV14

Posted Julie Ann Davis

We just made our yearly mecca to Las Vegas for the always fun Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender, and I finally had a moment to sit down to blog about our trip. Since VIVA is basically a work trip for us, this should be pretty short, but our trip always seems to be punctuated with a usual amount of fun random happenings. Part tourguide, part behind-the-scenes, this blog post looks to illustrate just SOME of the fun to be had at VIVA! Wednesday On our first day we made our mandatory trip to the Charleston Antique Mall. We've been there...

You Can Wear Retro Clothing #bodypositive

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Fashion Lifestyle

A few months ago I did a in-store seminar titles, Retro Fits For YOU and the idea of the seminar was to help women find some body positivity and give guidance on how to find the proper fit for retro style clothing. Size is a sensitve subject with most women, we are surrounded by a world that is either telling us we're too fat or were too thin. We are confused by shopping either online or in a physical store, because of things like vanity sizing or labels like, 'misses', 'juniors', 'plus size', etc. We are taught to try and...

Have Yourself a Merry Little Kitschmas!

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson

I've been decking our halls with balls of kitsch-mas, fa-la-la, hahaha!!! I have to admit I'm not a holiday fanatic, I think I have been hardened by working retail for over 15 years and my birthday is December 19th...but that's another story. I am not a grinch, yet I am certainly not clamoring to listen to Christmas music when the date strikes November 29th. You won't see me stringing up lights and belting out carols in the streets, but I will share some merriment (*cough wine cough*) with you anytime!  (I may have gone a little crazy with the glue...

The New England Shake-Up! 2015 : Part 2

Posted Julie Ann Davis Lifestyle Music

Here is the second half of our trip to the New England Shale-Up! 2015. I think the sign posted (above) pretty much explains that it is a party! Saturday Sept 26 Up-and-at-'em, all ready to vend at 9am! We vended at the car show this year and gave away a $50 gift certificate and crinoline from Malco Modes. A big THANK YOU to everyone that stopped by the booth, both new and old customers. I didn't have time to walk around the car show, but I did snap a photo of the car that was in front of our booth....

Brand spotlight: Interview with Lumpy Buttons

Posted Julie Ann Davis Fashion Lifestyle

Lumpy Buttons is the brainchild of Esther, a working artist based in Buffalo, NY. She loves her city, animals, and life in general, and has created a workshop of cute, goofy and geeky handmade gifts for just about anybody (including yourself!) What is amazing is that ALL of her items are completely handmade, from cutting the original designs to being sewn completely by hand. None of them are made with a sewing machine! Here's a quick interview with the artist: I'm sure you get asked this all the time, where did the name "Lumpy Buttons" come from? The name Lumpy...

Retro Cocktail Recipe : Nervous Breakdown

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails

I have to admit I'm on the verge of a 'nervous breakdown' due to the horrid winter we've been having in Buffalo, NY, so this drink seems to reflect my poopy attitude. Though there are a few cocktails named the Nervous Breakdown, this one is my favorite! This drink is made with Chambord, a French black raspberry liquor. Nervous Breakdown Ingredients: 1 1/2 oz. vodka 1/2 oz. Chambord Splash of cranberry juice Club soda or sparkling water Method: Combine vodka, Chambord, cranberry juice in a collins glass filled with ice. Fill with soda and garnish with a orange slice.  ...

Style Inspiration : It's Wedding Season!

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Fashion Style

Wedding season is upon us and we offer a lot of style advice and recommendations for what to wear as a guest to the wedding or suggestions for bridal shower attire. We have even dressed a few brides for their special day! One of the questions we are often asked is, "Is this wedding appropriate?", now a lot has changed over the years, but we always recommend it's best to be over dressed than under dressed for these type of occasions. Of course, we also think you should ask the couple who's wedding you are attending as to what they...
