At the end of March Derek and I were super excited to get-a-way for a small road trip to Columbus, Ohio and Cleveland, Ohio to visit the new Tiki bars that opened in both cities and to do some vintage shopping. It was a nice break from the crappy winter and indulge in one of our obsessions....Tiki!
Our trip started with my husband and I traveling from Buffalo to Columbus and our first stop was getting some lunch at Surly Girl Saloon. This is one of our favorite restaurant's in Columbus as not only is the food delicious, the burlesque pirate themed decor is awesome!
The Surly Girl Saloon has its own selection of wonderful cocktails, but we decided to be good. It's hard to be "good" when you're on vacation. *Wink*
After we fueled up, it was time to visit Flower Child Vintage that is essentially a vintage department store! I dig that they have items from the 30s through the 80s, yet the 50s through the 70s is my personal favorite eras for clothing and home decor. Ohhhhh, they have a lot of items that we drooled over and that just wasn't the Tiki items, so many amazing mid-century furniture, lamps, housewares and decor. Derek feel in-love with the bamboo bar in the photo above, but I had to remind him that the one he made at home is just as cool. Hehe!
Derek and I did more vintage shopping at Boomerang Room and a few other small shops along N. High Street and worked up an appetite, so it was time to check into the hotel, get Tikified and head to our main destination in Columbus, the Grass Skirt Tiki Room!
We've learned to 'winterize' our barkcloth ensembles.
The Grass Skirt isn't much to look at while it's cold and blustery outside, but I did spot a mini volcano and a patio that looks like it would be very inviting in the summer months. Needless to say we were super excited and entered with a good appetite for sample the food and tropical libations.
We've heard mixed reviews about the food, service and drinks, but we had great service, the food was tasty and the drinks were fresh and enjoyable. If you're a Tikiphile who likes to travel to destinations, I would say it's worth the trip if you're in the area, but I wouldn't recommend going out of my way for the Grass Skirt.
Derek and I did enjoy looking at all the wonderful decor like this large Tiki that greets you by the door. In true Tiki room style, the Grass Skirt was very dark inside and reminded me a lot of the atmosphere at Frankie's Tiki Room. This makes for a great enviroment to forget all your woah's or that it was light outside until someone opens up the doors. Hahahaha!
Thank you for joining me on our Tiki road trip to Ohio, next stop is Cleveland, OH where we visit our favorite vintage shops and enjoy our evening at Porco Lounge and Tiki Bar.
Alooooha!
