Cheap Beer - The Perfect Retro Beverage!

Posted Andrew Davis Cocktails Lifestyle

Mixed drinks, martinis, and polynesian libations are real crowd pleasers when it comes to having a drink to fit your retro lifestyle. But there is something to be said for the look, history, and low price of a cheap good brew, and there are a lot of brands that would fit the bill. On that thought we decided to pick a few and compare on design, kitch factor and taste. This is by no means a comprehensive list and, as we found, there are many local varieties that are as good (or better) than their national counterparts. There has been an...

My First Pinup Experience Featuring Sweet Heart Pin Up Studio

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Behind the scenes Lifestyle Local

Sweetheart Pin Up Studio is located right down the street from Cats Like Us at 59 Main St. Tonwanda, NY 14150. I first came up with the idea of working with Destiny Rogowski on a blog with the idea of shedding some light on the pinup photography experience from both the model and the photographer perspective. I wanted to share some insight into what Destiny does and perhaps encourage people who may be hesitant stepping in front of the camera. Well, when Destiny suggested I be the model it sent a bit of shock my system. "I'm a stylist, I'm...

The New England Shake-Up! 2015 : Part 1

Posted Julie Ann Davis Lifestyle Music

Last year we had such a good time attending the New England Shake-Up in Sturbridge, MA that we decided to attend and vend this year! (You can read about last year's adventures here.) Here's a quick shakedown of all the fun we had!  Thursday Sept 24 We packed up our little PT Cruiser--filled with tubs of crinolines, sunglasses, pomade, and pettipants--and headed East with our friends Mike and Judy. The ride was long, almost 7 hours, but the reward was great… after settling into the hotel we took a drive to have dinner at Kowloon restaurant! If you LOVE tiki (like...

You Can Wear Retro Clothing #bodypositive

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Fashion Lifestyle

A few months ago I did a in-store seminar titles, Retro Fits For YOU and the idea of the seminar was to help women find some body positivity and give guidance on how to find the proper fit for retro style clothing. Size is a sensitve subject with most women, we are surrounded by a world that is either telling us we're too fat or were too thin. We are confused by shopping either online or in a physical store, because of things like vanity sizing or labels like, 'misses', 'juniors', 'plus size', etc. We are taught to try and...

The New England Shake-Up! 2015 : Part 2

Posted Julie Ann Davis Lifestyle Music

Here is the second half of our trip to the New England Shale-Up! 2015. I think the sign posted (above) pretty much explains that it is a party! Saturday Sept 26 Up-and-at-'em, all ready to vend at 9am! We vended at the car show this year and gave away a $50 gift certificate and crinoline from Malco Modes. A big THANK YOU to everyone that stopped by the booth, both new and old customers. I didn't have time to walk around the car show, but I did snap a photo of the car that was in front of our booth....

Brand spotlight: Interview with Lumpy Buttons

Posted Julie Ann Davis Fashion Lifestyle

Lumpy Buttons is the brainchild of Esther, a working artist based in Buffalo, NY. She loves her city, animals, and life in general, and has created a workshop of cute, goofy and geeky handmade gifts for just about anybody (including yourself!) What is amazing is that ALL of her items are completely handmade, from cutting the original designs to being sewn completely by hand. None of them are made with a sewing machine! Here's a quick interview with the artist: I'm sure you get asked this all the time, where did the name "Lumpy Buttons" come from? The name Lumpy...

Cats Like Us visits New Orleans : Final Day

Posted Julie Ann Davis Lifestyle

It was our last full day in New Orleans (read about our previous days here: day 1 - day 2 - day 3) and we wanted to get an early start. It was pretty gloomy and raining but we didn't let that get us down, and since it was miserable in Buffalo anything is better! Window shopping on Magazine Street We hopped on the bus and got a day pass to Magazine Street – a nearby college town shopping district. We heard good things about it and wanted an adventure, but we were a bit early for the shops! We...

Cats Like Us visits New Orleans : Day 1

Posted Julie Ann Davis Lifestyle

We are sick and tired of the cold weather here in the Northeast! At one point the temperature was -11F (that's MINUS eleven) and it's been snowing since “Snowvember” (November.) It can be depressing, draining, and frustrating. The sky is always gray, you have to bundle up like you're taking a trek across the mighty tundra, you think your arms might fall off from all the shoveling, cars won't start, furnaces break, and there's no respite. The cold and snow just keep coming. As a result, we decided to escape from the cold and go south to New Orleans! Here's...
