Retro Cocktail Recipe : Trader Vic Scorpion Bowl

Posted Meagan Kyla Hendrickson Cocktails

Sharing a cocktail served in a volcano bowl is a fun experience with friends or a couple, just don't forget the long straws! There are many types of cocktails that can fill a scorpion bowl or volcano bowl, so what's the difference? A scorpion bowl is usually a smaller bowl that serves about two people, while a volcano bowl has a raised 'volcano' shape in the middle of the bowl (pictured above), that serves four-six people. So, why is it on fire? The 'volcano' is filled with 151 proof rum and then lit to create the effect of the 'volcano' being on fire. Just don't try to drink the liquor that's on fire! Hey, we like to live dangerously, but would just being silly!

Now we need to fill these fun vessels with some liquid delight, so I've picked the Trader Vic Scorpion Bowl recipe as it's a classic retro cocktail that makes a punch. Get it, makes a punch. Eh? Eh? Okay, moving along.

Ingredients:

1 oz. dark rum

1 oz. gold rum

1 oz. 151 proof rum

2 oz. gin

2 oz. vodka

4 oz. orange juice

4 oz. pineapple juice

4 oz. grenadine

**Tip: you can leave out any alcohol that doesn't appease your palette. For instance, I leave out the gin.

Method:

Fill volcano or scorpion bowl with ice. Mix all ingredients in a seperate pitcher and/or bowl and then pour into volcano/scorpion bowl. Grab those straws and let the fun begin!

**Tip: If using a volcano bowl, don't light the 'volcano' with 151 proof rum until you've placed the bowl where it's going to be serve. Safety first, don't want to spill any of that liquid gold....or set yourself on fire. *Wink*

Cheers!

XOXO-Meagan Kyla
