1950s Floral Pleated Dress
Here's a nice casual dress for everyday wear. This is a white dress with yellow, blue, pink and green flowers throughout. It's sleeveless, with pleating on hte skirt and bust and buttons down the back. It's labeled "Tanner of North Caroline by Dorothy Cox" and it is in excellent vintage condition. Tanner of North Carolina was founded in 1931 as the Doncaster Collar and Shirt Company. Its founders were S.B. Tanner, Jr., and his wife Millie of Rutherfordton, NC. In 1935 the company began direct sales to consumers, through the Junior League of Charlotte. The concept caught on, and the business grew nationwide, with Millie as designer, and S.B. (known as BoBo) as the business director. During the 1950s, Doncaster fashions were sold through direct sales and a second label, Tanner of North Carolina which was started in 1954, was sold through department stores and specialty shops. Dorothy Cox was hired as the designer about 1954. The company is still in business today, having celebrated the 75th anniversary of the company in 2006. The bust of the dress measures 35 inches, waist 26 inches, hips 40 inches. This is an authentic one of a kind vintage piece in wearable condition, that has been cleaned and repaired (if necessary). Flaws will be noted, but please ask any questions you may have as this is a FINAL SALE garment and cannot be returned. All items are measured flat the same way we measure our reproduction items.
