On Vixen! - 2012 Holiday Dress Guide

Posted by Julie Ann on

It's December already. Though some of us may have only just started to punch out the windows of our event calenders, keep in mind that time is of the essence. The weeks fly by as fast as the Buffalo snowfall. Along with prepping, planning, shopping, corresponding and supposedly “making spirits bright,” we mustn't forget about the parties. Oh, the parties.

It seems once we get those invitations in our hands, we are up in arms with the question, “What am I going to wear?” Don't care to pull everything out of your closet only to settle on “this ol' thing” at the last minute? Fret not. Whether you have a holiday affair or you are going out to welcome 2013 properly, we have just the dress you need to ensure that heads will turn and that the real star certainly is not on top of a Christmas tree.

ALL DECKED OUT

Go Green In this gorgeous 1940's-style dress, you will be the envy of every girl in the room. Collectif's Alpine Jenny Dress may seem a bit more conservative with its long sleeves, but remember, you don't need to show a lot of skin to heat up a chill winter's eve. The deep V-neckline and form-fitting core make this timeless piece tantalizing. Not only will you set yourself apart, someone is bound to set their sights on you...under the mistletoe.

Like A Fine Wine If you are need of something classically feminine, but you still want to be your-red-hot-self, Lucky 13 has the party dress for you. It is hard to decide what the best part of the First Class Burgandy Dress is exactly. Is it that both the neckline and back plunge? Is it the darling black velvet rosette belt buckle? Or is that it gives a girl the perfect hourglass? Crinoline or no crinoline, you will be the belle of the ball even at a low-key soiree.

L.J.D.: Little Jade Dress Though this blogger is a firm believer that a gal can never have too many black dresses, once winter hits, you start to miss bright, spunky colors. For a holiday dress that will get you out of the dark, Lucky 13's Low Cut Jade Ava Dress is a must-have. At first glance, this little number is as sweet as sugar icing because of the playful hue and three-quarter sleeves. But, the sash belt accents your waistline and the material hugs all the right curves, thus proving you don't always have to be in black to feel “va-va-va-voom!”

THREE! TWO! ONE!

She's In Parties For some of us retro kittens, a typical New Year's Eve celebration has never been a black-tie cocktail. Still, a party's a party and we can, will, and must sport a party dress. Sourpuss Clothing's Mary Lu All Black Mini Dress is an LBD that is ideal for a semi-formal or casual (depending on what that means to you) shin-dig. This little frock is dangerously cute with its sheer, polka-dotted over-lay covering the flouncy bottom-half. Sourpuss Clothing's latest little black dress also has a sultry edge with its unapologetic lace-trimmed bustline and inviting lacy black. To the ladies in need of a dress for an NYE alternative or darkwave dance party, we implore you to search no further. Guaranteed, once you walk in the door, you will resolve to wear this dress more often.

Cheers, Hip-Cat! Hell Bunny's Poesy Cut-out Swing Dress is THE dress for any girl who's about to swing her way out of 2012. Just like champagne and strawberries, bright red and black are always a winning combination. The crimson mandarin collar along with the matching snap buttons and belt adorn a dress that demands to be taken out onto the dancefloor. In spite of the vampy color-scheme and peek-a-boo cut-out, this piece can make 'em swoon while still leaving the crowd wanting more. You can give a crinoline a twirl or go without if you require less frills for the evening.

Meet Me At Midnight Want to get an early start on being dead sexy in 2013? Channel old Hollywood and start the new year as a starlet in the Beautiful Rose Wiggle Dress from Living Dead Souls. As this dress proves, less is more. This one-shoulder dress doesn't require a lot of accessories. The embroidered red roses and gathering on the side give this glamorous piece all that it needs to be red carpet worthy. For finishing touches, we highly recommend slipping on a pair of black fishnet stockings to highlight the small slit up the leg and black satin gloves to make this iconic look complete.

PARTY FAVORS

“A Leg Up” When you step out this holiday season, allow your legs to come out of hibernation. Dress up your steams along with the rest of you. I strongly suggest the following hose and stockings from Leg Avenue:

Gotta Love Gloves Get your hands on a genuine feel for a retro holiday look. A good pair of gloves are all you need when nail lacquer and jewels aren't going to cut it. Greet old friends and new acquaintances properly with the following from Leg Avenue and Be Wicked:

Just like a tray of petit fours and truffles, I gave you a lot of yule tide treats to digest. But before I leave you to add items to your shopping cart or to drop hints and clues to loved ones, I would like to remind all you cats and kittens to be safe as well as stylish this holiday season. I also want wish you healthy and happiness in the new year. May this be your best one yet!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
