Canandaigua Road Trip (Day 1)

Posted Andrew Davis Beer Lifestyle

We don't get out much… literally! But we are fortunate living in Western New York to have many destinations only a few hours away. So that when we do decide to take a few days off it's hard to choose what to do!

Andrew and Julie Ann outside Cats Like Us. Roadtrip to Canandaigua, NY

For a recent vacation we decided to visit Lake Canandaigua, one of the New York Finger Lakes. This lakeside town offers a nice assortment of wineries, antique stores, fantastic food, and some of the most beautiful state parks around. It is an easy drive from Buffalo, only an hour-and-a-half!

Our plans for day 1 included travel, check-in, and dinner. We couldn't be more pleased with how it went.

Exterior Inn on the Main. Canandaigua, NY

We stayed at The Inn on The Main, located on North Main Street. It is located within walking distance of downtown Canandaigua and Sonnenberg Gardens. If you don't mind walking a bit farther you can also get to the lake. If you're less keen on walking, in Canandaigua parking is plentiful and free on weekends.

The Inn on The Main is a beautiful bed and Breakfast with 5 lovely rooms, all differently appointed.

A different breakfast is served daily in their main dining area.

Once into town and checked in at the inn we set out on foot for dinner at the local german pub, The Rheinblick, located on Main Street.

Entry to the restaurant is down a back alleyway, which makes for an interesting start!

Beer at The Rheinblick. Canandaigua, NY

To drink Julie Ann opted for a mixed beer: a hard cider & wheat beer mixed and served in the house stein. Delicious! I was unaware of the German practice of mixing beers for flavor. As a non-beer drinker (I prefer a mai-tai) this seems like a great idea!

Food at The Rheinblick. Canandaigua, NY

We weren't starving, so we opted to share a meat, cheese, and bread platter and a seasonal vegetable salad.

Dessert at The Rheinblick. Canandaigua, NY

For dessert we had Apfelstrudel  (apple strudel if you didn't guess) with raisins (as big as your head) and whipped cream... so good!

After dinner we we continued down to the lake and found a swing bench where we just enjoyed the view and perfect weather!

Stay tuned cats for our next blog in which we visit the beautiful Sonnenberg gardens!
